Nationwide Counsel, Personal Commitment
We work from our home offices around the country, including North Idaho (near Coeur d'Alene); Cheyenne, Wyoming; Phoenix, Arizona; and Encinitas, California. When you hire The MacPherson Group, you receive much more than attorneys with extensive tax controversy experience — you also receive a nationwide network of tax associates, CPAs, and advisors.
We associate with local counsel when required by local rules of practice. We also work closely with independent CPAs and Enrolled Agents according to the needs of our clients — for example, return preparation including reconstruction when records have been lost. Many of our clients have not filed tax returns for 10 or 20 years, if ever. We often recommend such professionals from among our nationwide network. It is our practice to hire such professionals under a Kovel agreement to protect the attorney-client privilege.
A Combined Legacy of Federal Tax Defense
Donald W. (Mac) MacPherson founded The MacPherson Group in 1978 and built nearly five decades of federal tax defense work. His son Nathan MacPherson, J.D., now leads The MacPherson Group, LLC — an Alaska professional limited liability company — and travels the country visiting clients. Mac continues to advise as Of Counsel from Arizona and California.
Scott MacPherson, J.D., is available for select consultations. Nathan's civil and criminal tax defense practice is nationwide.

Associates & Advisors
We utilize trained independent contractor professionals who are not attorneys; they work with our clients but do not give independent legal advice. We have close relationships with several CPAs and Enrolled Agents who are experienced in the complex work required during active criminal and civil tax cases, especially when no returns have been filed for 10 or 20 years or more. Our financial advisors help clients not only get back on their feet, but improve their financial position as a result of IRS issues.
